I'm afraid that you provided an incorrect answer; the correct term is "Normally Closed", which definitely meant that it IS by default connected!

NO = Normally Open
NC = Normally Closed

These terms describe functional switch and relay pin/post connectors' default circuit continuity and the energized or switched position of these are the opposite, where a NO connection closes when the switch is thrown or the relay is energized; conversely, the NC connection opens.
